What is a good meeting . . . and why do meetings often fail to meet the mark?

A good meeting is one that engages the brilliance and creativity of participants to advance your organization to the benefit of all involved.  Often this is not accomplished in a limited time span when a challenge or opportunity needs to be addressed and addressed fast.  In the interest of getting things done and moving on with daily demands, we frequently revert to a style of accomplishment that quickly defines the issue and moves directly to solution or action.  Such an approach has its merits, of course - but it just as often bypasses the amazing creativity and competence that could illuminate the question and lead to inspired action.  The problem is even more severe if we are responding to surface issues and not even asking the right question.

Why a retreat?

Just as with a well-earned vacation, when you remove yourself from your everyday surroundings a new perspective begins to emerge.  By bringing your group together in a new and natural environment, you unconsciously give yourself the message that it is time to move into a new rhythm.  Although the fast lane often is required to remain one's competitive advantage, unless we slow down, we have little time to reflect.  And without reflection, we do not integrate the hard-won life experience that allows us to bring not only information but also deep wisdom to business decisions.

If you can make the time, we recommend an overnight or weekend stay.  This allows the good work you do to settle in, shift around a bit, and find even higher ground.
